Creative Decisions - Digipak
A creative decision we have made for the digipak is cropping the magazine advert so that it only shows the hands in front of the painted colours. We will then put this as the main theme in the digipak so that it works well with the advert and the promo due to the hands showing up in all three tasks.
On the other parts of the digipak we have decided to put things like the tracklist, contact details etc.

Creative Decisions - Magazine Advert
For the magazine advert we have decided to keep it quite simple so we are going with just the hands in front of the painted colours. We are then going with the most popular font from our audience
research and adding the things that are conventional for magazine adverts such as ratings and information about the album.
We are also going to make sure that the writing matches by doing the text in a similar font as the one that we used in the title.
To make the star ratings stand out we have added a back glow to the stars. This makes them stand out on the white background.

Music Promo Feedback
We have decided to edit out the parts where the singer is looking down so that it looks more professional and so that our audience will like it more as this is some of the feedback we have been given. We are going to change the parts where he is looking down to filler shots as much as we can.
Another piece of feedback that we have been given that we are following up on is the idea to try and get shots of the singer and the actress on the beat of the drums at the beginning of the song. We are in the process of trying to do this and we have found that it looks a lot more effective like this then it did before.
More feedback that we have been given is the idea of adding more narrative of the girl being heartbroken before the shots where she makes herself up to symbolize that she is getting over the break-up. We have already started to do this.

Magazine Advert and Synergy
The magazine advert is coming along quite well.
It has a similar design to the digipak so that it links with synergy and the audience can tell that it is apart of a theme that is running through our promo, digipak and magazine advert.
The part of synergy is the hands with the checked lines through it as this imagery appears in the promo and the digipak.
The digipak and the magazine advert also share painted colours as the background behind the hands. This shows synergy as it links the two together very clearly so the audience can tell straight away that the digipak and the magazine advert are apart of the same thing.

Creative Decisions in Promo

One the shots of Hope writing 'Tonight I Let You Go' we are going to take photos of it and then filming someone putting their hand over the red hand on the go page with a yellow handprint and then with a orange hand.
Editing Changes
During editing we have changed the structure of our promo when looking at the storyboard. This is because some of the shots just didn't work during filming and we added new things in to make up for the fact that we had to miss some of our storyboard out. Another reason we have done this is because we had to make sure the things that we added in fitted with the stuff that we kept. We have kept the basic structure of our promo but otherwise we have changed most of the way things were fitted in with our storyboard and shot list.
Some of the things that didn't work was the idea of the guy being painted and then having the boy painting sing some of the song. This didn't work due to the complexity of the idea as we couldn't get the idea to work well with the technology and programs we have available to us, making the idea look bad when we tried to do this with the technology we actually had.

Behind-the-Scenes
Mise-en-scene in our Promo - Conventional to Genre
Location
Our location fits the genre as it is mainly studio-based but still looks like it could be a more urban location as its arty and looks like something that someone would actually use. These kind of locations are typical for the genre of The Colours. Pop has more studio based locations while alternative has more arty urban type locations so we have made a location that fits both of these.
Actors
The actors that we have chosen fit the genre as they have the right look for a band of this genre. The singer has the right type of look that fits into the typical representation for this genre. He has a casual not really trying that hard look which a lot of singers in this type of genre.

Costumes
The costumes we have chosen are typical for this genre as they are casual clothing that anyone would wear. This gives it a realist feel to the video that is very conventional for this type of genre.

Photo for Digipak
This is the photo we will use in the digipak about the band. Our band will be Hope and Josh, Josh as the singer and Hope will be the instrumentals/actor for videos. This will make our band seem different and appealing to both genders. In lots of alternative/indie bands it is a mixture of genders in the band. This also works for us as we use both Hope and Josh.
Location In Music Promo
Here is our final location for the music promo. We decided not to film in a garage but the kitchen as we can use one side without appliances to look like a light art studio. This look good to film as it was bright but also conventional to our genre as it wasn't too OTT but very natural and realistic,
Performance Actor
By choosing Hope and Josh to star in our promo it will make it more conventional and typical to the genre. As they both are quite arty they will suit the video, and also make the video look more arty. As this theme is what we want to achieve and will suit the genre then they will be great for the promo.
They are quite natural in front of the camera and can show many feelings that are needed e.g. sadness. This will make them more like an alternative/indie promo/actors and will also make the video more realistic.

Fonts
Here is the results of a poll we did on our fonts for the digipak and the poster. We used poll everywhere and asked people to text in their favourite. We asked our target audience (male & females, aged 15-19) so we would get what they would enjoy and find visually appealing.
The most popular is font 5 and font 1 at 5 votes each so to decide we will put both on and ask which poster/digipak they like the most. Then when we complete our poster etc it will be what our target audience will want to look at/buy. Therefore making our band more popular.

Audience Research on Music Promo/Digipak/Poster
To gain some audience feedback on everything we've done so far, we handed out questionnaires to people who our similar to our target audience (aged 17-19, male and female). We showed them our digipak & poster as well as playing the song and explaining the idea.
Most people liked our idea and preferred much more to our other as its unique. They also liked the art aspect as its creative and will keep them watching it again and again. They said one thing we could change is the performance and have it done in the garage/art studio too. When filming we will try this out.
(insert pie chart). We asked people if they thought the song and video would match. 10 out of 11 said yes, while 1 said no as they thought its too much of a pop video and said that if we maybe included more performance it would fit more so we will add some more performance. Once they saw the storyboard matched with the lyrics they said the singing and story line work well together and the narrative is like a puzzle almost.
For the fourth question we asked if it fits our genre. Everyone said due to the quirkiness of the video and the arty aspect that it does as many alternative/indie videos have an art vibe to it. Also the heartbreak theme is like it as many songs from this genre are e.g. Arctic Monkeys - Arabella etc. The animation also fits as its different and not done often. Although people said that the clips we showed them were too short, so we will make longer one to practice/ see if it works.
The digipak and poster were liked by people. They liked how a similar theme was kept throughout and the picture fits to the song. They said that the digipak could include less about tours and more about the band and maybe include the lyrics. When making the final digipak we will include band info/lyrics as it will appeal more to our audience.

Actors
For our music video we are using Hope. She will be able to represent the girl in the video well as she can paint well and portray a heartbroken girl. This is conventional as well as heartbroken girls are very common. Also as she is mid-teens she will be similar to many girls going through the same. Our genre keeps the actors quite plain and natural so we will try and achieve this by making her seem quite natural/relatable.
Health and Safety: Risk Assessment
To film in the garage we will need to move boxes and other things from the garage. We could drop something and hurt ourselves. To minimise this risk we will be careful not to carry something that is too heavy for us to carry so that we won't drop them.
Risk Assessment
During filming our production we will have many risks that need to be taken into account to ensure the health and safety of not only the actors/actresses, but also ourselves.
Venue: Garage
Description of activity: Filming our music video in a art studio like setting including dressing the set, installing lights & moving heavy objects.
Possible HAZARDS:

Digipak Analysis

Digipak Inspirations
For our digipak we are going to go for a hand-drawn/painted style to it. We are doing this as it links to our band name and adds a unique twist to the digipak. We have taken inspiration from these three digipak's as they are drawn/painted. They are also of similar genre so our digipak won't be unconventional and will be sticking to its genre/style. Also the fonts on it are similar to ours.
This digipak in particular is very inspiring as it has a simple and classic look to it which is what we want.

Magazine Advert Inspirations
For our magazine advert we looked at adverts done by bands similar to our genre. For our advert we want it similar to the digipak; where its drawn and links to song/band. These few caught my eye as they are similar as they are arty and simplistic. They are also similar to out genre so fit to conventions.

Costumes - Planning

As our music video focuses on an artist we decided to go for a typical look e.g. the oversized shirt as a form of protection from the paint.

We went with a high top style of shoe as they are very common and the majority of people own a pair which could have a positive effect on the viewers as they could see something that they own and feel like they can relate to the character in an odd sort of way.
This is also conventional to our genre as they don't make a lot of effort with costumes in their music videos. Similar to the make up. Also as we want to create a laid back feel like other indie/alternative promos, so by doing this to costumes it will make it.
